In a city full of fast-paced lives, one man’s simple yet powerful action caught everyone’s attention. A Mumbai resident, Karthik Nadar, took it upon himself to remove an illegal commercial poster pasted on a Mumbai Metro Line 2B pillar. He not only cleaned the public structure but also shared before-and-after pictures on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), which quickly went viral.
“Who Took Things Into His Own Hands? Me!” – Says Karthik
In his viral post, Nadar wrote, “Guess who decided to take things into his own hands? Me. Someone pasted their business ad on a metro pillar. I removed it — can’t let anyone ruin its beauty! Next mission: Political banners. Coming soon!”
Wearing his helmet and posing proudly beside the now-clean metro pillar, Nadar’s post has received over 1.1 million views, with thousands praising his civic sense and determination.
The Backstory: Business Owner Offered Him Money
Speaking to media, Nadar revealed that he had called the number printed on the poster. The person on the other end even offered him money to remove it, assuming he was a government official. “I gave them a few days to take it down themselves, but they didn’t. So, I did it myself,” Nadar said.
Metro Authorities Step In, Praise the Act
The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) acknowledged Nadar’s effort on X, posting:
“Ad wars on metro pillars? Not on our watch! Big thanks to @runkarthikrun for removing what shouldn’t have been there. The concerned salon has been fined as per Section 62(2) of the Metro Act, 2002.”
The metro authorities also reminded citizens that placing illegal posters or billboards on metro premises is a punishable offense.
Social Media Cheers for a “Real Hero”
From ordinary citizens to influencers, everyone lauded Nadar’s action. One user commented, “If I lived in Mumbai, I’d join you next time. We need more people like you!” Another said, “This is what civic responsibility looks like. Kudos to you!”
A Small Act, Big Message
Karthik Nadar’s small but meaningful step is inspiring many to take civic responsibility seriously. While his next “mission” may be political banners, his message is already loud and clear — clean cities begin with aware citizens.
Guess who decided to take things in his own hands?🙈
