Bollywood actress and entrepreneur Shilpa Shetty has finally addressed rumours about her iconic Bandra restaurant, Bastian, shutting down. In a video message, she assured fans and food lovers that the restaurant is not closing, but undergoing an exciting transformation.
The Bandra outlet will now be transformed into a new South Indian restaurant called Ammakai, while Bastian will soon reopen in Juhu as Bastian Beach Club.
“Bastian Is Going Nowhere,” Says Shilpa
Shilpa Shetty, who co-owns the restaurant chain with her brother and business partner Ranjeet Bindra, clarified that Bastian remains an integral part of their hospitality vision.
“No, I am not shutting down Bastian, I promise. Bandra Bastian is simply giving way to a new restaurant inspired by my roots called Ammakai,” she explained.
Ammakai will focus on authentic South Indian Mangalorean cuisine, bringing a taste of traditional flavours to Mumbai’s food lovers.
New Ventures: Ammakai & Bastian Beach Club
The actress shared that while Ammakai will operate in Bandra, the much-loved Bastian brand will relaunch in Juhu with a fresh twist as Bastian Beach Club.
Shetty described this expansion as a way of preserving Bastian’s legacy while introducing new flavours and experiences.
“Bandra Bastian was the root of our tree called Bastian Hospitality. Now, like a tree blooms with new fruits, it’s giving way to Ammakai,” she wrote in her caption.
She also credited Ranjeet Bindra for his vision and passion in scaling the hospitality business.
Ongoing Controversy
The announcement comes at a time when Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra are facing a ₹60-crore fraud allegation by businessman Deepak Kothari. The complaint alleges misuse of funds intended for business expansion nearly a decade ago.
Despite the controversy, Shetty remains focused on growing her hospitality ventures.
