Usha Nadkarni, a veteran face in Indian television, has spent years charming audiences with her powerful performances. In a recent conversation, she opened up about one of the most challenging chapters of her life: her time inside the Bigg Boss Marathi Season 1 house.
Known for her straightforward nature, Usha didn’t hesitate to call her experience in the reality show deeply unpleasant. She admitted those days inside the Bigg Boss house left her mentally exhausted. Remembering the 77 days she spent there, she described the environment as maddening. Usha candidly confessed, “Bigg Boss ke voh 77 din, paagal ho gayi thi. Bheje mei keede lagte hai vaha.” It wasn’t just the intense atmosphere or the constant surveillance, it was the disconnection from the outside world that wore her down.
Once she stepped out of the show and returned to her normal life, she realised how deeply the experience had affected her perception. She recalled an odd moment at home when, standing at her door, she asked her brother why the living room seemed smaller. He laughed and explained it only felt that way because she had spent weeks inside a lavishly built house on the show. Usha shared this memory with a hint of humour, but it reflected the mental space contestants often find themselves in after being isolated for so long.
But the impact wasn’t limited to disorientation. Usha admitted she had forgotten simple everyday things. Dialing a phone number, something so routine, had slipped from her memory. She expressed that after staying cut off from the world, even small things felt strange. The absence of any link to the outside world made her forget basic details, including her own phone number.
Looking back at it, Usha firmly believes the show’s environment isn’t suited for everyone. She mentioned how most people lose a part of themselves in there, and it wasn’t any different for her. “Mera toh experience bohot kharab tha. Firse bulayenge toh nahi jaane wali hu. Vahi namaskar karke aa jaungi,” she said with conviction, leaving no room for second thoughts.
While giving a brief virtual tour of her house, Usha opened up about the personal battles she’s fought along the way. Life hasn’t always been easy. Struggles, both personal and professional, shaped her journey. She spoke with honesty about navigating difficult phases and how, even at 79, she continues to embrace life with resilience and warmth.
Her stories remind us that behind the glamorous world of television, there are experiences that test one’s patience, spirit, and identity.
