Television actress and Bigg Boss 14 winner Rubina Dilaik stepped into motherhood in November 2023, when she and husband Abhinav Shukla welcomed twin daughters, Edhaa and Jeeva. Since then, the couple has been vocal about their parenting experiences, often sharing heartfelt moments online. While the joy of raising twins is immeasurable, Rubina recently opened up about facing harsh societal judgments surrounding skin tone, something that has directly affected how people view her daughters.
In a candid episode of her podcast Kisine Bataya Nahi, Rubina discussed the pressure society places on parents, especially mothers, to conform to outdated beauty norms. Joined by actress Aakanksha Singh, she addressed the common tendency to compare children’s appearances, specifically skin tone.
Rubina revealed that one of her twins has a fair complexion while the other has a dusky skin tone. She shared that visitors often compare the two girls without realizing the emotional harm it may cause.
Calling Out the Comments
Rather than ignoring these remarks, Rubina takes a stand. She explained that whenever someone tries to compare her daughters’ complexion, she immediately speaks up. “I always tell them, ‘She is beautiful. Look at the complexion. She is fair. She is amazing. Don’t even bring this comparison in home.’” Rubina emphasizes the need to challenge these beauty narratives early, especially within family and social circles.
She even mentioned how older generations suggest home remedies like applying ‘dal ka paste’ or ‘besan’ to lighten a baby’s skin. Rubina firmly refuses these practices and instead chooses to uplift her children through affirmations and emotional strength-building.
Raising Daughters to Love Themselves
Rubina shared that she whispers positive affirmations to Edhaa and Jeeva daily. She tells them they are “beautiful,” “strong,” and “fearless,” and assures them they will be capable of overcoming anything life throws at them. According to her, it took over three decades of her own life to unlearn the conditioning she grew up with.
“This is how we build the psychology. It took me 30+ years to understand,” Rubina confessed. She believes the process of shaping her daughters’ inner world must start from infancy, with daily reinforcement of their worth, irrespective of their appearance.
The actress recalled an incident when she had to stop someone from bringing beauty comparisons into her home. “I said ‘Yeh comparison ya yeh standard of beauty mat lekar aana,’” she shared on the podcast, adding that her household will be a safe space where both girls are celebrated equally.
Rubina wants her daughters to grow up proud of who they are and embrace their natural features. In her view, every child deserves to be appreciated for their individuality, not judged against harmful ideals.
From Motherhood to the Screen
Beyond her personal life, Rubina remains active on the professional front. She’s currently part of Laughter Chefs, a show that brings together humor and culinary challenges. Soon, fans will also see Rubina alongside Abhinav Shukla in the upcoming reality show Pati Patni Aur Panga, which promises a fun yet emotional glimpse into celebrity relationships.
