Ronit Roy, one of Indian television’s most respected names, is returning to the small screen after years. The actor, known for effortlessly balancing careers in films, OTT, and TV, is now stepping back into television with Chakravarti Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan on Sony TV. This move marks an important moment for fans who’ve followed his versatile journey across platforms.

In a recent conversation, Ronit opened up about what drew him back to TV after such a long absence. He explained that while he’s been busy juggling film and web projects, nothing on television had truly sparked his interest. That changed when this project came along. The actor shared that the producer was an old friend and colleague, and having worked with the channel earlier on Adaalat for five years made the offer even more comfortable. Describing his role, he said, “Luckily, this wasn’t a role where there were too many challenges; only some physical effort was needed to look like a warrior and be able to wield a heavy sword, so I took training for that.”

While he’s excited about his new show, Ronit didn’t shy away from addressing the current state of Indian television. He pointed out that content quality has been slipping for some time. According to him, new mediums like OTT have fragmented audiences and altered viewing habits. People now prefer watching content on the go, leaving traditional TV struggling to keep up. He observed that the television industry needs to evolve, suggesting shorter, finite shows with clear storylines as a possible solution. “TV has been in a downward spiral for a very long time now. Obviously, when new mediums come in, viewership gets divided, and now people’s viewing habits have changed,” he noted. He expressed hope that eventually television would embrace tighter narratives, where actors too would have a clear sense of their character’s journey.

The conversation naturally turned to Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, one of the defining shows of Indian TV. Ronit confirmed that the cult hit is indeed making a comeback with a second season. The actor, who played Mihir Virani in the original, shared heartfelt memories from that time. “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is coming back. I wish the makers, cast, and crew of this season all the very best,” he said. Reminiscing further, he called Balaji his home turf and credited the show as a career-changing moment.

One relationship that stood out for Ronit during those years was with his co-star Smriti Irani. Their off-screen bond was as strong as their on-screen chemistry. Speaking warmly of her, he remarked, “Smriti is one of my favorite colleagues and is like my little sister. It was a very warm relationship and remains so to date.”

Shifting focus to his film projects, Ronit spoke about his upcoming release Maa, produced by Ajay Devgn’s banner. The film, scheduled to release on the 27th of this month, gave him the opportunity to work alongside Kajol. Ronit couldn’t stop praising her. “The icing on the cake was working and spending time with Kajol on the sets. She is a truly amazing human being and an amazing actor,” he said. The actor admired her energy, wit, and professionalism, mentioning how much there was to learn from her presence.

With his return to television and an exciting film ready for release, Ronit Roy’s calendar is as packed as ever.
