The buzz around Bigg Boss 19 is growing stronger with each passing day. As speculations about the new contestant lineup spread, one name recently made headlines, Ram Kapoor. Rumours claimed that the veteran actor was confirmed for the upcoming season of the reality show. However, clearing the air, Ram Kapoor firmly denied these claims in an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla.
Why Ram Kapoor Turned Down Bigg Boss for a Staggering Sum
The actor recalled how, many years ago, the show’s creators had approached him with a massive offer. He admitted it was a staggering amount, something that would surprise anyone. Ram said, “Towards the beginning of Bigg Boss, many years ago, the creators had offered me a sh*t amount of money, a really serious amount of money. They were very surprised when I said no because it was a lot of money.”
The 51-year-old actor reflected on how accepting that offer would have allowed him to earn in three months what typically took him a year. A senior creative from the show had even visited his home to persuade him. Yet, despite the tempting paycheck, Ram stood by his decision. He made it clear that it wasn’t because the show was bad, but because such formats didn’t align with his beliefs as a trained actor.
Calls Bigg Boss ‘Voyeurism’, Not a Stage for Method Actors
Ram explained he had dedicated four years to studying method acting, which shaped his approach to his craft. For him, reality television like Bigg Boss wasn’t a space to showcase artistic talent. He stated that the concept of watching people locked inside a house with cameras on them had no artistic value for him. According to Ram, “It’s just voyeurism, which is fine. Everybody who does it, good for them. It is something I cannot ever think of doing.”
He went on to explain that his personality would never allow him to adjust to such an environment. Ram confessed that if placed inside the Bigg Boss house, his natural reaction would be to rebel against instructions. He shared that he wasn’t the type to participate in random tasks or challenges, adding bluntly that he would refuse to follow orders. He said he told the show’s makers, “You are offering me great money. But if you offer me Rs 20 crores also, I can’t think of doing it” years ago.
Despite his reservations, Ram expressed respect for those who took part in Bigg Boss. He mentioned how his friend and actor Ravi Kishan had participated in the show and enjoyed the experience. Ram remembered Ravi speaking with great enthusiasm about his time in the house. He added that while others might find the format appealing, it wasn’t something he could personally accept.
Dismissing recent speculations about being approached for Bigg Boss 19, he firmly stated that no one had contacted him because they knew there was no chance he would agree. Ram reiterated that the makers knew his stand on the matter since his first rejection over a decade ago.
On the work front, Ram Kapoor recently appeared in the web series Mistry, released on June 27. The show has been receiving a warm response from viewers. Mona Singh also stars in the project alongside Ram.
