Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi is back, and the nostalgia is hitting harder than Tulsi’s courtroom monologues. With season 2 now streaming, fans are reliving the golden age of Indian TV but it’s not just the onscreen drama that’s grabbing headlines. Actress Kiran Dubey, who once played the ambitious Karishma Virani in the original series, recently dropped a bombshell about her off-screen clash with none other than Tulsi herself, Smriti Irani.

Kiran Dubey Recalls Tense Encounter with Smriti Iran

In a no-holds-barred interview with Vicky Lalwani, Kiran didn’t mince her words while recalling her less-than-pleasant time on the Kyunki set. She described her experience during season one as far from enjoyable, particularly citing an ugly spat she had with Smriti Irani inside the green room.

According to Kiran, Smriti asked her to leave the room in a tone that wasn’t exactly wrapped in kindness. “It was not pleasant to continue working on the show after that,” Kiran said, adding that the atmosphere turned cold and uncomfortable. The clash, she explained, stemmed from differing ideologies and personal values. “I got pumped up,” she said, indicating that she wasn’t one to stay silent.

“Power Should Empower, Not Inflate Ego”

While the green room drama is enough to fuel a week’s worth of gossip columns, Kiran’s remarks on Smriti Irani’s political career stirred an even bigger pot. Expressing her surprise at Smriti’s return to television after years in politics, Kiran questioned the intent behind the move.

“When you are in a position of so much power, you can truly empower people at the grassroots level,” she said. In a pointed remark, she added, “If you step out of Mumbai, within a few kilometers, you see women struggling to find water. When you have a huge platform, you should not use it for a self-centred ego-driven trip.”

Despite acknowledging that the Kyunki family is proud of Smriti’s political journey, Kiran feels that kind of influence could and should have been wielded with more purpose. Kiran kept it mature, saying it’s natural for two individuals to hold diverse views. “But,” she noted sharply, “it seemed like Smriti had already made up her mind about her alliance.”

Kiran vs. Ekta Kapoor

Kiran Dubey’s Kyunki journey didn’t end with her departure from the show. She continued working with Ekta Kapoor on other projects, but the road wasn’t always smooth. She admitted it was no easy feat to calm Ekta down, calling her “India’s biggest producer” and someone with a fierce passion for her craft.

But unlike many who might’ve bowed down to industry pressure, Kiran says she always stood her ground. “I never put money as a priority,” she shared, “and I believed in taking a stand for myself.”

Things escalated behind the scenes when conflicting versions of the green room episode reached Ekta’s ears. According to Kiran, what was conveyed to the producer was far from accurate. However, fate had a dramatic twist, she and Ekta met unexpectedly at the Siddhivinayak Temple. The setting might’ve been divine, but the conversation was pure damage control. “We clarified everything,” Kiran confirmed.

Kyunki 2.0 Is On, But the Real-Life Drama Hits Different

While Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 continues to churn out daily doses of family feuds and dramatic zoom-ins, the real-world revelations by former cast members like Kiran Dubey are giving the show a whole new layer of intrigue. With a fresh cast portraying the next generation of Viranis and veteran actors reprising iconic roles, the stage is set for a powerful reboot. But clearly, behind the camera, the drama was never off.
