Former Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah actress Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, who played the beloved Roshan Bhabhi for several years, recently shared heartfelt insights about her past, her co-stars, and her professional relationship with lead actor Dilip Joshi. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Jennifer reflected on the beautiful memories from the sets and the silence that followed her departure from the show.
“I Had a Very Good Equation with Dilip Ji”, Jennifer began by addressing her current status with Dilip Joshi, who plays Jethalal in TMKOC. She shared that they had a wonderful bond while working together, but communication ceased after her exit.
“Dilip Ji ke sath bohot acha equation tha. Jis din se mai nikli hu, unse koi contact nahi hai,” she said, adding that neither of them made an effort to reconnect. It was a mutual silence that followed her exit from the show.
She further expressed her feelings by adding, “Mai unko bohot miss karti hu.” Jennifer confessed that she used to message him to wish him on his birthday, but post her legal case, she chose not to.
Fond Memories and Web Series Talks on Set
Jennifer fondly remembered spending quality time with Dilip and other cast members during lunch breaks and between shoots. She recalled, “Dilip Ji, Amit, Mandar, Shyam Ji and Shailesh Ji yeh log ek sath rehte the.” While Shailesh Lodha usually went home for meals, Jennifer often joined the rest of the group, or ate with her roommate Sonalika Joshi, who played Madhvi Bhide.
The actress highlighted a unique bond she shared with Dilip Joshi. “Dilip Ji aur mera mast conversation hota tha about English web series,” she said, revealing that it was Dilip who got her interested in watching shows beyond Indian television. Until 2016 or 2017, she had not even watched TV regularly.
Their discussions about international shows and characters were a regular feature on set, which added a creative flair to their time together.
Dilip Joshi’s Humility on Set
While recalling their work dynamic, Jennifer praised Dilip’s professionalism. She admired how he remained grounded despite being the central figure of the show.
She shared how Dilip would often let go of his lines if he thought someone else could do justice to them. Jennifer emphasized that such gestures are rare in the television industry, where many actors hesitate to share the spotlight. She said, “He is a very professional person.”
When asked whether Dilip Joshi reached out to her during her dispute with the show’s makers, Jennifer revealed that he chose to stay away. She wasn’t surprised by his silence. “Jitna mai jaanti hu shuru se, voh kabhi bhi kisi ke bhi lafde mai nahi padte,” she noted.
She also mentioned that she herself never contacted actors who left the show before her, so she didn’t hold any expectations from others to check on her during difficult times.
Despite the legal battle and the issues that led to her exit, Jennifer’s words reflect a mix of nostalgia and respect. Her memories from the sets, her candid chats with co-stars, and her quiet admiration for Dilip Joshi paint a picture of the bond the TMKOC family once shared.
