When it comes to comedy in India, there’s one man who’s managed to tickle funny bones, break TRP records, and walk back into his throne like he never left, Kapil Sharma. With nearly two decades of making India laugh, Kapil isn’t just a comedian anymore; he’s an institution. And if you ask fellow comedian and longtime collaborator Rajiv Thakur, he’ll tell you straight-up: Kapil is “irreplaceable.”
“Kapil Sharma Ne Rule Kiya Hai” And How!
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Rajiv Thakur couldn’t stop singing praises of the comedy king. “Jo banda pichle 18 saal se undoubtedly rule kar raha hai… banda chhod ke gaya TV, do-do saal tak koi kuch nahi kar paaya,” he said, defending his admiration with sheer logic.
Rajiv was quick to shut down the trolls who accuse him of praising Kapil just to get work. “Waapas aata hai, phir usi position mein hota hai wo. To kyun na karun mai taareef?” he added. Basically, when someone walks back into their show and owns the spotlight like a boss, a little appreciation is not flattery it’s fact.
A Timeline Sprinkled With Punchlines
Kapil Sharma’s rise is the stuff of showbiz folklore. From winning The Great Indian Laughter Challenge Season 3 in 2007 to headlining multiple successful seasons of Comedy Circus, he’s delivered more punches than a Bollywood action flick. But it wasn’t just about the laughs, it was how he made prime-time family TV cool again.
Currently, he helms The Great Indian Kapil Show, a format that seems to be ageing like fine wine with a hint of Punjabi spice.
Rajiv Thakur: From Sidekick to Scene-Stealer
Rajiv Thakur, who’s been riding shotgun with Kapil since 2016, knows a thing or two about how the engine of the show runs. From playing a quirky cafe attendant to cracking up celebrity guests, he’s added his own flavour to the mix. Though he’s not part of the current third season of the Netflix show, Rajiv recently ventured into serious territory with the series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack. But make no mistake, his heart still beats for comedy, and he remains a loyal member of Kapil’s inner comic circle.
Rajiv also heaped praise on Sunil Grover, calling him the “king of disguise.” He noted that Sunil, known for characters like Gutthi and Dr. Mashoor Gulati, gets so into his roles that he barely steps out of them even when the cameras stop rolling. “Jab Sunil kisi character mein hota hai, woh easily nikalta nahi usse,” Rajiv quipped.
