On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, actor Eijaz Khan decided to address an issue he finds increasingly troubling, the rising trend of vaping among young people. Known for his powerful roles in films like Jawan and Dhoom Dhaam, along with notable web series such as City of Dreams and Adhrishyam, Eijaz took a firm stand against what he described as a dangerous new obsession.
In a sincere and straightforward message, Eijaz called attention to what he termed a “new ridiculousness” that has taken hold of young adults and even minors. “I want to talk about a new trend that I see everywhere, especially among young adults and even underage individuals: this new ridiculousness called vaping,” he declared.
His concern was not just about the act itself but also about how the vaping industry seems to be subtly and effectively targeting a younger market. Eijaz pointed out how vapes are cleverly packaged to appear harmless, even fun. He noted how these devices come in bright, flashy colors and appealing flavors, making them easily acceptable in spaces where traditional smoking wouldn’t be allowed. According to him, this normalization is alarming, as he has often witnessed people casually vaping in places where cigarettes are banned.
The actor was clear in stating that the aesthetics might be different, but the danger remains the same. “It’s not better than smoking. It’s the same poison, just packaged differently,” he warned. Drawing from conversations with friends working in pharmaceuticals and medicine, Eijaz explained how vapes are packed with harmful substances like heavy metals, carcinogens, and chemicals that can scar the lungs over time.
He stressed that the only real distinction between cigarettes and vapes is the absence of the traditional cigarette odor. But, as he pointed out, the bright packaging and fruity aromas shouldn’t fool anyone into believing these products are safe. Eijaz shared that many tend to excuse vaping because it doesn’t leave behind the familiar ashtray smell. But the reality, as he put it, is far more dangerous.
Beyond the physical risks, Eijaz also emphasized the impact vaping has on the brain, particularly for young users. He spoke about how it manipulates the reward system in the brain, making it dangerously addictive. The actor observed that vaping has started to look like a fashion statement. He mentioned that when teenagers and young adults pick up this habit early, their minds start seeking that next rush, much like an addict does.
Reflecting on his own youth, Eijaz said he was lucky to have healthier distractions. “Luckily, when I was young, we had sports. We had discipline. That’s what we chased for a reward not this,” he stated. It was a reminder of a time when choices were different and perhaps better for one’s well-being.
Though widely admired for his intense, complex characters, Eijaz approached this topic with genuine humility. He openly admitted that he doesn’t see himself as an icon or someone trying to influence public opinion. Instead, he described himself simply as a human being capable of errors but also aware of the responsibility that comes with public recognition. “I’m not trying to influence the youth, and I don’t see myself as an idol or icon. I see myself as a human being, someone who’s capable of making mistakes. But I also know I have a social responsibility,” he confessed.
Eijaz also shared a personal decision he made long ago, to stay away from smoking entirely. It wasn’t just for his health but also for the message it conveyed to those watching him. In his words, “We don’t need more flavored lies in society.” The actor explained that even in his career now, he is chasing truth over appearances and believes it’s vital for public figures to redefine what real coolness means. For him, true confidence lies in owning one’s choices and refusing to be controlled by addiction.
Eijaz Khan’s words serve as a timely and necessary reminder for both the public and the industry to reconsider the images we celebrate and the consequences they bring.
