Vandana Sinha, daughter of legendary folk singer and Padma awardee Sharda Sinha, has lent her voice to Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film Nishaanchi, creating a proud moment for Bihar’s music fraternity. The film is set to hit theaters on September 19.
Vandana, trained in both folk and classical music, recorded a soulful lullaby titled So ja nindiya so ja, penned and composed by Manan Bhardwaj. The recording took place in Delhi, after which she traveled to Mumbai to meet director Anurag Kashyap.
An Emotional Tribute to Her Parents
Speaking about her debut, Vandana became emotional while remembering her late parents.
“My mother nurtured me with her voice since childhood. This joy feels incomplete without her. If both my parents were alive, this happiness would have doubled,” she said.
She revealed that Kashyap’s team first contacted her brother in February. “Later, I received the lyrics and was asked to record the song. It’s a lullaby filled with tenderness and emotions,” she shared, describing Kashyap as “very easy-going and simple.”
Musical Journey and Training
Vandana completed her early schooling in Ranchi and holds an MA in Music from Delhi University. She continues her classical music training under Guru Ojesh Pratap Singh and Soma Singh.
Her mother, Sharda Sinha, who popularized Bhojpuri folk music, was honored with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for her immense contribution to Indian music. Vandana’s debut marks the continuation of a rich musical legacy.
