Director Vivek Agnihotri has once again hit headlines, this time over his upcoming film The Bengal Files, scheduled for release on September 5, 2025. The film’s trailer was set to be launched on August 16 in Kolkata, but the event was abruptly cancelled, sparking a fresh controversy.
According to Agnihotri, the cancellation was a result of political pressure, as the theatre where the launch was planned backed out at the last moment. However, the filmmaker has refused to bow down and declared that the trailer will be released in Kolkata at any cost.

Taking to social media, Agnihotri posted a video in which he revealed the sudden cancellation of the grand launch event. Without naming any specific political party, he claimed that attempts were being made to silence voices through undue influence.
Agnihotri warned the Mamata Banerjee government directly, vowing that “The Bengal Files trailer will be launched in Kolkata itself, no matter what.” His strong words have further intensified the political buzz around the film.
