Bhojpuri superstar Pawan Singh has once again landed in controversy after a Varanasi court directed police to register a case against him. The FIR, filed under multiple IPC sections, accuses the actor and three others of ₹1.3 crore fraud and issuing murder threats.
FIR Registered After Court Order
According to police, the FIR was lodged at the Cantt police station based on an order by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Manish Kumar. Apart from Pawan Singh, the accused include Premshankar Rai, his wife Seema Rai, and Arvind Chaubey. The charges have been filed under IPC Sections 420 (Fraud), 406 (Criminal Breach of Trust), 467 & 468 (Forgery), and 506 (Criminal Intimidation).
Businessman’s Allegations Against Pawan Singh
The complainant, Vishal Singh, a hotel and travel operator from Nadesar, Varanasi, claimed he was lured into investing in Bhojpuri films in 2017. He alleged that Premshankar and Seema Rai promised heavy profits, assuring him that Pawan Singh would be cast in the project. Initially reluctant, Vishal Singh eventually invested after repeated persuasion.
By June 2018, Vishal was pressured to transfer money quickly, fearing Pawan Singh might sign another film. Over time, Vishal and his brother’s firm Riddhika Enterprises transferred around ₹32.6 lakh to Shreyas Films Pvt Ltd. Later, he claims he spent ₹1.25 crore on the film “Boss,” including production and other expenses.
Claims of Fraud and Threats
Despite heavy investment, Vishal Singh alleged that after repaying only ₹12 lakh, the accused stopped answering calls and allegedly issued death threats. He also claimed that although the film was released and reportedly earned profits, neither his investment nor his share of the profit was returned.
Police Investigation Underway
ACP Cantt Nitin Taneja confirmed that a cognizable offence has been registered. Police will soon contact Pawan Singh and other accused during the investigation to record their statements.
