Telugu film industry is grieving the loss of one of its most celebrated actors, Kota Srinivasa Rao, who passed away at the age of 83. The legendary actor breathed his last on July 13, 2025, at 4 AM in his Hyderabad residence after a prolonged illness. His death marks the end of an era for South Indian cinema, particularly for Telugu films where his performances have left an indelible mark.

A Stalwart of South Indian Cinema

Born on July 10, 1942, in Kankipadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kota Srinivasa Rao hailed from a distinguished family. His father, Sitarama Anjaneyulu, was a reputed doctor. Though initially aspiring to follow his father’s path in medicine, Kota’s passion for acting led him to theater during his college years while working at the State Bank.

He debuted in the film industry in 1978 with Pranam Khareedu and went on to establish himself as one of the finest character and villain actors in Telugu cinema. Over his illustrious career, he starred in more than 700 films, captivating audiences with his compelling screen presence and intense portrayals.

Not Just an Actor: A Political Journey

Apart from his cinematic achievements, Kota Srinivasa Rao ventured into politics in the 1990s, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He was elected as the MLA from Vijayawada in 1999, serving the people of Andhra Pradesh with dedication.

Previously, rumors of his demise had surfaced, which he refuted through a social media video, urging people not to spread misinformation. Unfortunately, this time, the news is heartbreakingly true, leaving the film fraternity and fans in mourning.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Kota Srinivasa Rao. In his condolence message, he said,

“It is deeply saddening that the legendary actor Kota Srinivasa Rao, who mesmerized audiences with his versatile roles, has passed away. His contribution to cinema and theatre over four decades is unforgettable. His villainous and character roles will remain etched in the hearts of Telugu audiences forever. His passing is an irreplaceable loss to the Telugu film industry. My heartfelt condolences to his family.”

The legacy of Kota Srinivasa Rao lives on through his films and the roles that defined South Indian cinema for generations.
