The Malayalam film fraternity is mourning the sudden demise of one of its most loved comedy actors, Kalabhavan Navas. The 51-year-old actor was found unconscious in a hotel room near Chottanikkara, Kerala, on the evening of August 1, 2025. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Initial reports suggest a heart attack as the cause of death.
Early Career: From Stage Mimicry to Silver Screen Fame
Born in 1974 in Vadakkanchery, Kerala, Kalabhavan Navas began his career as a mimicry artist performing at stage shows. His big break in the Malayalam film industry came in 1995 with Balu Kiriyath’s movie Mimics Action 500. From there, he never looked back, acting in over 50 films across decades.
Some of his most memorable performances came in movies like Hitler Brothers, Junior Mandrake, Mattupetty Machan, Chandamama, and Thilana Thilana. His blend of humor, spontaneity, and mimicry made him a household name in Kerala.
He also showcased his singing talent in the 2012 Malayalam film Cobra.
A Family Rooted in Theatre and Cinema
Kalabhavan Navas hailed from a family with deep ties to the performing arts. His father, Aboobacker, was also a prominent theatre and film actor. His mother was a homemaker, and Navas remained emotionally close to her throughout his life. After starting his acting journey, Navas moved to his mother’s ancestral home in Ernakulam, where he lived for 20 years.
Personal Life: Wife and Children
Kalabhavan Navas was married to Rehana, a Malayalam television and film actress. The couple has three children – Naharin, Reehan, and Ridwan. His death has left the family and fans devastated.
