Cate Blanchett’s much-awaited film Father Mother Sister Brother, directed by Jim Jarmusch, premiered on Sunday night at the Venice Film Festival and received a five-minute standing ovation. The emotional response inside the Sala Grande theatre marked a triumphant return for Jarmusch, who last appeared at Venice in 2003 with Coffee & Cigarettes.
Blanchett and Krieps Deliver Dual Performances
In this slice-of-life drama, Blanchett plays a pair of sisters opposite actress Vicky Krieps. Their chemistry and depth of performance drew strong applause from the audience. As the credits rolled, Jarmusch paused to honor his leading cast—Blanchett, Krieps, Charlotte Rampling, Mayim Bialik, and Indya Moore—by kissing each of their hands.
Male Cast Absent at the Premiere
While Luka Sabbat represented the men of the film on premiere night, Adam Driver and Tom Waits—who portray a father and son in the movie—were unable to attend the festival. Still, the cast and director’s presence ensured an electrifying evening for cinema lovers.

The film will be distributed theatrically by MUBI across North America, Latin America, the U.K., Ireland, Turkey, India, and Benelux. In Benelux, Cineart will collaborate with MUBI for the release.
