Jasmine Jafar, a contestant from Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 6, has issued a public apology following significant backlash over a video filmed at the renowned Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple. The controversy involves a reel showing the celebrity washing her feet in the temple’s sacred pond, an act considered deeply disrespectful by devotees.
The video, which has since been deleted, led to a formal police complaint being filed against Jafar by the temple management, who have also called for purification rituals to be performed on the premises.
The Incident and Immediate Backlash
The dispute centers on the Vilakku Kettu pond within the temple complex. This water body is considered highly sacred, with the belief that Lord Krishna himself bathed there. It is traditionally used only for bathing the deity’s idol and for specific religious rites. The Guruvayur temple also maintains strict entry rules, prohibiting non-Hindus from entering.
Jafar’s act of washing her feet in the pond and then posting the video on social media was perceived as a blatant violation of these sacred protocols. Temple manager O.B. Arun Kumar expressed strong condemnation and filed the police complaint, demanding action against her.
Jasmine Jafar’s Public Apology
Facing intense criticism online and the legal complaint, Jafar posted an apology on her Instagram story.
“To those who love me and everyone else… I understand that the video I made has caused trouble,” she wrote. “I did not want to hurt anyone or create controversy intentionally. I wholeheartedly apologize for my mistake, and it was done unknowingly. There was no disrespect intended in my mind.”
She emphasized that her actions were unintentional and that she had no desire to offend the religious sentiments of anyone.
Legal and Religious Implications
The Guruvayur police confirmed the registration of the complaint against the reality TV star. The situation is further complicated by existing legal restrictions. As authorities pointed out, the Kerala High Court has banned all recording and shooting within temple precincts, except for designated religious functions or weddings.
This incident highlights the ongoing tension between social media content creation and the preservation of religious sanctity, setting a precedent for how such cases are handled in the future. The temple committee is now assessing the full extent of the rituals required to reconsecrate the affected area.
