Hollywood stars Anna Faris and Regina Hall are officially set to reprise their iconic roles as Cindy and Brenda in the upcoming ‘Scary Movie’ reboot, confirmed by actor Marlon Wayans via Instagram. The much-awaited comedy-horror spoof will hit theatres on June 12, 2026.
The reboot marks the first time in 18 years that the Wayans Brothers – Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon – are coming together to write an original script for the franchise. They will also produce the film alongside Rick Alvarez, while Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, and Thomas Zadra serve as executive producers.
A Blockbuster Franchise Returns
The original Scary Movie debuted in 2000, directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, and became a massive box-office hit, earning $278 million worldwide. Known for parodying horror classics like Scream, The Blair Witch Project, and I Know What You Did Last Summer, the film starred Anna Faris, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Carmen Electra, Shannon Elizabeth, and Dave Sheridan.
The upcoming reboot will be the sixth film in the franchise, distributed globally by Paramount Pictures under its first-look deal with Miramax.
Anna Faris & Regina Hall on Their Comeback
Sharing their excitement, Faris and Hall said:
“We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).”
A Franchise With a Legacy
Over the years, Scary Movie has remained a cult-favorite comedy for fans of parody films. However, behind-the-scenes tensions once clouded its history. Earlier this year, Marlon Wayans remarked about the Weinstein brothers’ handling of the franchise, calling it “toxic” and suggesting they “probably should have sued.”
With the Wayans Brothers back at the helm and fan-favorite characters returning, expectations for Scary Movie 6 are already soaring.
