History of April Fool
According to media reports, the history of April Fool is very old. In 1582, France abandoned the Julian calendar and adopted the Gregorian calendar. Earlier, New Year was celebrated on 1 April according to the Julian calendar. But after the arrival of the new calendar, the New Year started celebrated on 1 January. But there were still some people who celebrated the New Year on 1 April. Those people were called fools, i.e., idiots, and were made fun of.
Since then, April 1st started being called April Fool and from this day the work of fooling started. Although the origin of April Fool’s Day is not certain, there could be many reasons behind it. In India, this celebration started in the 19th century when the British ruled.
The British then adopted their own culture, one of which was April Fool’s Day. It is celebrated differently in Belgium and France. On this day people stick fish made of paper. In France, April Fools’ Day is associated with a French tradition called “Poisson d’Avril.”
